Constantine Film (2005) Review (contains spoilers PG-13)

"Hell Want's Him. Heaven Doesn't. Earth Needs Him."

About: Constantine tells the story of irreverent supernatural detective whom goes by the name John Constantine who has literally gone to hell and back.

Summary: Constantine is a horror film which shows viewers another case for John Constantine the demon hunter or if you prefer supernatural hunter. In the film John Constantine is seeked out by a detective called Det. Angela Dodson who needs help to solve the true reason behind her twin sister Isabel's mysterious suicide. Angela believes that her twin sisters death wasn't a suicide she joins with john Constantine to look for the right answer. The reason why Angela believes this is because her twin sister was a devoted catholic and because of her twins faith committing suicide is considered a sin. John Constantine agrees to help Angela being a demon hunter, sending demons back to hell and solving mysterious death is part of his jobs. Constantine had been gifted with the power to see Angels and Demons walk the earth as humans, they are called half-breeds.

As a young child Constantine's gift started to emerge and he "saw things that no young child should ever see." these gifts started to affect his mind and soon drove him to insanity when he became a teenager which lead him to commit suicide which then caused his soul to be damned to hell. To get on good terms with god Constantine started to send demons back to hell however that wasn't enough God wanted self sacrifice. As Constantine proceeded into the case of Isabel's death he soon found out that demons are trying to break through the human world his efforts to try and protect the earth sends him to direct conflict with Satan.

My Review: This is another seriously underrated movie for me the film was great and it really was a brilliant horror movie most scary movies look good in the trailer but they are huge disappointment when you watch the full film, Constantine doesn't disappoint. This movie was a great fantasy horror. what I liked most of all was the angels that's normal in my sense cause i am obsessed with film angels the wing effect was absolutely incredibly. I loved how the director casted a female ( Tilda Swinton) to play a male angel it really shows that angels don't have a gender because they are celestial.

I really enjoyed Tilda's performance as Gabriel she brought a comic element to an archangel but she wasn't the only one who I enjoyed watching Peter Stormare who was cast as Lucifer also did a great job in his acting he too bought a comic element to a very serious being. Rachel Weisz who was cast as Angela and the twin Isabel also did great acting especially in the scenes were her character is using psychic powers or being possessed by a demon. Shia LaBeouf also deserves a hats off his character bought comedy in to a dark film and the sudden transition between his character towards the end was well acted. Throughout the film LaBeouf's character was portrayed as an enthuastic kid for out of the ordinary things and a kid who does not really take things seriously until the end. Shia's character became a serious, Brave young adult at the end.

As many reviewers say Keanu Reeves brought a different element to the character of Constantine. Keanu Reeves portrayed Constantine as a more human, likable man who is willing to at least try and make changes to earn a place near god.

The rest of the cast did well also especially: Djimon Hounson- Midnite The Witch Doctor and Pruitt Taylor Vince-Father Hennessy the alcoholic priest

This is another film I recommend you won't be sorry ( I'll be review the tv show also I Just need to re watch it I also liked the tv show very much. each actor has a different unique way of portraying Constantine. no way is the right or wrong way ) however the film is not recommended for younger children

My rate: full stars ★★★★★

-spoiler- Keanu Reeves Constantine giving the finger to Lucifer as he ascends to heaven one of my favorite scenes
